Real estate tax for the state, county, schools, and districts is paid to the Scott County Sheriff (scottsheriffky.com). Value questions go to the Scott County PVA (scottkypva.com).

Vehicle Property (Car) Tax
2026 Rate Stack
Kentucky taxes vehicles as property every year. For 2026, a Scott County owner who lives outside Georgetown, Corinth, Sadieville, and Stamping Ground pays $1.284 per $100 of assessed value. That baseline is the sum of three rates from the Kentucky Department of Revenue's 2026 MOTAX Rate Book: the 45-cent state rate, Scott County's 28.6-cent county-wide rate (general 16.6, library 6.0, health 4.4, and extension 1.6 cents), and the 54.8-cent Scott County school rate. Every Scott County rate is the same as in 2025.
Four cities add a vehicle levy on top. Scott County has one school district for the whole county, and the rate book lists no fire or other special district with a vehicle levy in the county.
| Levy | Type | Rate | Total With Baseline |
|---|---|---|---|
| City of Georgetown | City | +16.8 cents | $1.452 |
| City of Corinth | City | +24.6 cents | $1.530 |
| City of Sadieville | City | +35.0 cents | $1.634 |
| City of Stamping Ground | City | +40.0 cents | $1.684 |
Each total adds one city levy to the $1.284 baseline. The rate book notes that Corinth lies partly in Grant County; this table covers the Scott County part. Source: Kentucky Department of Revenue 2026 MOTAX Rate Book, Scott County 105.
How the Vehicle Is Valued
January 1 is the assessment date. Under KRS 132.485 the standard value is the vehicle's average trade-in value in the J.D. Power valuation manual, not the rough or clean trade-in value and not the price you paid. Vehicles 20 or more years old use their 19th-year value, reduced 10% for each year beyond 19. The Property Valuation Administrator (PVA) may adjust the value when you show that the standard value does not reflect the vehicle's condition, options, mileage, or title.
| Assessed Value | At the $1.284 Baseline | In Georgetown ($1.452) |
|---|---|---|
| $10,000 | $128.40 | $145.20 |
| $20,000 | $256.80 | $290.40 |
| $30,000 | $385.20 | $435.60 |
| $40,000 | $513.60 | $580.80 |

When and How to Pay
The Scott County Clerk collects the tax with your registration renewal. Its main office is at 101 E. Main Street in Georgetown ((502) 863-7875; Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), with a motor vehicle drive-thru branch at 240 Caleb Conley Way. You can renew online (not if you owe delinquent vehicle property tax; a 2.75% card fee and a $2.00 mailing fee apply), in person, by phone, or by mail. Plates are usually renewed in the owner's birth month, and the Kentucky Department of Revenue mails a notice in the month before. Under KRS 134.810, the tax is due by the last day of the renewal month, or by the last day of the month the vehicle is transferred if that comes first. Once the tax is delinquent, late payment adds a 3% penalty if paid within 30 days of becoming delinquent (waived if paid within 5 days), 10% after that, plus 15% annual interest (KRS 134.810).
Disputing a value: assessment questions go to the Scott County PVA (room 206 on the second floor of the courthouse, 101 E. Main Street, Georgetown; (502) 863-7885), not the Clerk. Under Kentucky Department of Revenue guidance, talk to the PVA first; if that does not resolve it, a written protest goes to the Department of Revenue within 60 days of the date of notice.
Kentucky has no state relief on the first $20,000 of vehicle value like Virginia's PPTRA. For how a relief program changes a car tax bill, see our Virginia PPTRA explained guide.
Real Estate Tax
2025 Rates
The 2025 baseline real estate rate in Scott County is $0.8907 per $100 of assessed value: the 10.6-cent state residential rate, Scott County's 15.57-cent county-wide rate (general fiscal court 5.28, health 4.4, library 4.4, and extension 1.49 cents), and the 62.9-cent Scott County school rate, per the Kentucky Department of Revenue's 2025 Property Tax Rate Book. The baseline applies outside the four cities.
City levies add to it. Example: a Georgetown home paid 10.6 + 15.57 + 62.9 + 6.2 = $0.9527 per $100 for 2025, or about $2,381.75 on a $250,000 assessment, compared with about $2,226.75 at the baseline outside the cities.
| Levy | Type | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Georgetown | City | +6.2 |
| Stamping Ground | City | +13.5 |
| Sadieville | City | +13.7 |
| Corinth | City | +26.5 |
Each rate adds to the $0.8907 baseline inside that city. Scott County has no independent school district, and the 2025 rate book lists no fire or other special district real estate levy for the county. Source: Kentucky Department of Revenue 2025 Property Tax Rate Book, Scott County 105.
Tax year 2026: the state's 2026 Property Tax Rate Book was not yet published at our last check, so the 2026 Scott County real estate stack is not shown here. The Scott County PVA reports that the 2026 rates have been set; your 2026 bill shows the rates that apply to your parcel.
Assessment, Bills, and Due Dates
Real estate is assessed at fair cash value as of January 1 by the Scott County PVA; the Sheriff notes that it never assesses value and refers questions about value to the PVA at (502) 863-7885. The Scott County Sheriff collects property taxes for 28 districts and says tax bills are normally mailed on November 1 each year. The bill states when the taxes are due and what to do to avoid penalties; the Sheriff's website does not publish the dates.
Kentucky's default schedule under KRS 134.015 is a 2% discount if paid in full by November 1, the face amount through December 31, a 5% penalty in January, and 10% after January 31. Because Scott County bills go out around November 1, the Department of Revenue's alternative schedule for delayed bills can apply, so the dates printed on your bill control. Unpaid bills are transferred to the Scott County Clerk on or around April 15 for continued collection, followed by notices from the County Attorney and a tax sale late in the summer (Scott County Clerk).
Questions about a current bill go to the Scott County Sheriff's office at (502) 863-7855; its website links an online lookup of current tax bills. City property tax in Georgetown, Corinth, Sadieville, and Stamping Ground is set by each city; check your bill or your city to see whether it is billed separately.
Homestead Exemption
Homeowners who own and live in their home and are 65 or older, or classified as totally disabled, can deduct $49,100 from the home's assessed value for the 2025-2026 assessment years (Kentucky Department of Revenue; KRS 132.810). Applications go to the Scott County PVA ((502) 863-7885).
Sales Tax
Rate and Composition
The sales tax rate in Scott County is 6%, the same as everywhere in Kentucky. The Kentucky Department of Revenue states that there are no local sales and use taxes in Kentucky, so Georgetown and the other cities add nothing. Food and food ingredients for human consumption (groceries) are exempt under KRS 139.485. Candy, soft drinks, prepared food, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and dietary supplements are taxable at 6%.
